Glasgow

Joined Bank as a Research Analyst and was promoted to Leading Research Analyst 1991. My work has been varied and for a couple of years I concentrated on PC technical support particularly in the areas of local area networking, PC viruses and PC security. More recently I have moved into the IT Security section. This has meant significant involvement in RACF on MVS. I have programmed in most languages, particularly assembler, but not COBOL.

1984 - 1989

National Engineering Laboratory (Government Research Laboratory)

East Kilbride

Joined as Scientific Officer to work on robotic vision systems. Achieved promotion to Higher Scientific Officer in 1987. Work included commissioning a Unix system (AT&T System V), developing applications on DEC LSI and PDP computers as well as using ALL-IN-1 on a central VAX Cluster facility.

Admiralty Marine Technology Establishment (Naval Research Establishment)

Rosyth, Fife

6 month placement as sandwich course student working in non-destructive materials testing laboratory.

Article entitled How RACF handles passwords which was published in RACF Update November 2003 by Xephon.

Co-authored scientific report entitled A Model Based System for Component Recognition in Visually 'Noisy' Scenes with J D Todd which was published by Department of Trade and Industry, May 1988 (NEL Report No 713).
